About Acuity

Acuity Healthcare is an Employee Owned Long Term Acute Care (LTACH) hospital company that was founded in 2001. Acuity is defined in Webster’s dictionary as “acuteness; keenness, as of thought and vision.”

Acuity is focused on the development and operation of Long-Term Acute Care (LTACH) hospitals and the delivery of specialized care with improved outcomes. We offer quality care in a cost-effective manner to medically complex patients who require intensive hospital services for an extended length of stay.

We possess the unique knowledge of how LTACH services can and should work within today’s post-acute continuum. What does this mean for you and your loved ones needing long-term care? It means that when you enter an Acuity Healthcare hospital, you can rest assured that you are in good hands.

Acuity Healthcare is the only healthcare system to be an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Acuity Healthcare currently owns and manages five LTACHs in New Jersey, Ohio, and West Virginia. Acuity Healthcare was founded by President and CEO Edwin H. Cooper in 2001. Acuity is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Our goal is to help our patients reach optimum health so they can return to their homes or move to the next appropriate level of care as quickly and safely as possible. Please visit our Hospitals List for more information and to find a facility in your area.

Our Logo Enhances Our Mission: The Acuity Diamond

Diamonds are multi-faceted, valuable, sentimental and one-of-a-kind. Therefore,  it was a simple decision to choose the diamond as the inspiration for our logo. It represents the Acuity Healthcare family, but more importantly, it represents you. Each patient under our care has a unique set of needs and our team attends to those needs in the most compassionate and caring way possible. For that, we are proud.

We are Employee Owned and Proud of It

Acuity Healthcare’s culture has a foundation of Integrity First, Service before Self, and Excellence In All We Do. This was created during the inception of the company in 2001.

The culture has remained steadfast and true.

In 2014, we became Employee Owned and reaffirmed our commitment to our core values and they continue to remain the same.

When you walk into any of our hospitals, you can feel the energy and enthusiasm of our Employee Owners. Our team welcomes you into our home, the Acuity home – where we care about you and your family like they are our own.

When you hear Acuity Healthcare is an Employee Owned company, it means that we will always remain steadfast and true to you and your family.

And it means that when you have to decide where you should send your loved one, you can be assured that your family will be cared for by one of the best Employee Owned hospital systems in the country.

We save lives. We are able to do this because our Acuity family members are some of the best and brightest people in the nation.

Simply put – we are the best choice for your loved one.

What is an LTACH?

LTACH stands for Long Term Acute Care and refers to the type of service our hospitals provide. LTACH hospitals focus on high acuity, medically complex patients who have serious medical problems that require intensive and specialized care for an extended period (typically 20 – 30 days). Many of our patients are transferred to us from Intensive Care Units in traditional hospitals. It is not uncommon for them to have a secondary, underlying disease, such as heart disease or diabetes, which may delay their healing process.

Who makes up the Acuity teams at our hospitals?

We are proud that our teams are composed of the finest individuals in the healthcare industry, such as:

  • Board Certified Internists and Intensivists
  • ACLS Certified Registered Nurses
  • Case Managers
  • Specialists in Pulmonology, Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Hematology/Oncology, Urology, Surgery, Anesthesia, Physical Medicine / Rehabilitation, Pain Management, Wound Care and many others.
  • Registered Dieticians
  • Clinical Pharmacists
  • Social Workers
  • Respiratory Therapists
  • Physical Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Speech Therapists

Their areas of expertise differ, but they all strive to provide superior care to you and your loved ones.

Diagnosis, Treatments and Specialized Services

Our goal is to provide the highest quality of care to our patients in a cost-effective manner, so they can return home as quickly as possible. We treat many conditions in our hospitals, but among the most common are: cardiac and respiratory failure, pressure wounds, stroke trauma, multi-system failure, infectious disease and other neurological injuries. Our team of nurses and physicians also specialize in ventilator-weaning.

In addition to diagnosis and treatment, we also provide rehabilitation services for our patients as well as family education to ensure that the patient’s health and safety continue even after they are discharged.
