When I started working at Acuity Healthcare, I was excited to be hired as the Vice President of Communications.

My new position included all the traditional responsibilities, such as social and media relations, press releases, and newsletters. But one part of my job description was not traditional. My new duties also meant that I would be an educator for our team, and would need to learn everything about being part of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and what that means for the Employee Owners.

Prior to joining the Acuity team, I had some idea of what an ESOP was. Wawa is an ESOP, which is a very popular company in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I also was a business owner for five years. I knew I could combine my knowledge of an ESOP and my practical business skills to educate the team about being Employee Owners.

When I need to learn, I dive right in. I researched, read about it, and asked a lot of questions. I also attended a conference hosted by the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO). While there I attended classes that were designed to guide a company that would change to being Employee Owned.

Now, two years later, I really, really get it. I guess you can say, I’ve had an epiphany.

Acuity Healthcare’s culture has a foundation of Integrity First, Service before Self, and Excellence In All We Do. This was created during the inception of the company.

The culture has remained steadfast and true. Their commitment to the core values has remained the same.

Recently, I was walking down the hall with one of our Chief Clinical Officers, and she noticed a mark on the floor. She stopped to clean it. Why? Because she cares. She cares about her patients, the families, and her team.

When you walk into any of our hospitals, you know we care. We have Employee Owners, who always act as Employee Owners. They always have and always will. It is truly who they are. They get it, and they care!

Being part of an Employee Owned company is an opportunity to help the company grow and be the very best at what they do.

We are the best.

When people ask me what we do, I say that we provide people and their families hope at a time when they need it most.

We save lives. We are able to do this because our Acuity family members are some of the best and brightest people in the nation.

When you hear Acuity Healthcare is an Employee Owned company, it means that we will always remain steadfast and true to you and your family.

And it means that when you have to decide where you should send your loved one, you can be assured that your family will be cared by one of the best Employee Owned hospital systems in the country.
